There’s No One Like McCaulley…

I make no secret of how much I enjoy doing what I do.  Sports has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember and local sports in particular.  Over the years I have had the opportunity to work with a number of people but none more than my long-time broadcast partner Scott McCaulley.

Not sure there is anyone that likes the sports game as much as I do, but if there is, McCaulley, might just be the one.   Scott has been the sports director (among many other jobs) at Earls Family Broadcasting (formerly Orr and Earls) since 1991.  Together we have had the opportunity to call football playoffs, state and national championship basketball, and although we usually work separately in baseball we have done playoff games together in that sport as well.

I wrote an article last week about my dad and how much he contributed to my love of sports.  I think Scott would share a similar story about his beginning.  His dad was a long time and very respected official in southwest Missouri.  Drury, SMS, and local high schools were regular destinations for Scott and his brother Skip.  But Scott did more than just watch.  He was an All-Ozarks performer on a state championship football team at Springfield Greenwood and was also a manager on the basketball team.  While at SMS he helped out Keith Guttin and the Bears baseball squad and was with them on their first trip to the NCAA D1 Regionals.

After school Scott went to work in the Springfield market working everything from high school football to American Legion baseball.  He ran the scoreboard for Bears football for a number of years.  In 1991 he was offered the opportunity to run the sports department at KOMC/KRZK and the rest is history.

If you only listen to sports on the radio station you only know about a fraction of the things Scott does.  He hosts a daily show called AT YOUR SERVICE covering everything from politics and travel to cooking and catering.  He helps coordinate election and political coverage for EFB.  Scott shows his versatility by being able to fill in on basically any show the station has when the host has to miss. Oh, and he serves as the coordinator for radio and internet broadcasts from the NAIA Championships at College of the Ozarks.

There is no doubt, I would not be doing any of the coverage I get to provide now if it weren’t for Scott.  I have shared the story many times of my thankfulness to station management for “sticking with me” while I learned the ropes.  Well it was Scott that taught me those ropes and I am so appreciative of him for doing that.  He is not only my partner, but my friend, my mentor, and most a happily my brother in Christ.

Thanks Scott, looking forward to a lot more to come.

  1. Perry, thank you for your heartfelt tribute to my brother, Scott! I may be biased, but he is as good as it gets!
