A Banner Year…

With Forsyth falling short in the District Baseball Championship game the broadcast schedule for 2015-2016 has come to an end. Still some track going on and hopefully some medals to be won but as far as sports broadcasts the curtain has closed.
What a year it was. Reeds Spring continued their success on the football field. Again, winning ten games and advancing to the district championship game before falling to Aurora. An incredible group graduated last night and Coach Lance Gosch will have some holes to fill, but, no doubt the young Wolves are excited for a chance to show what they can do.
Basketball talk for high schools has to start at Branson. The Pirates were dealt a blow when two returning starters decided not to play. But, the rest of the team came together and built momentum through the season and ended up coming away with the Central Ozarks Conference Championship. The Lady Pirates had a great year of their own. Although they did not claim a Conference or District crown, they were ranked in the top ten in the state from much of the year.
Speaking of a successful year, look no further than School of the Ozarks. The Patriots won the Mark Twain League regular season and tournament titles, they won Districts, Sectionals, and fell just short in the State Quarterfinals.
Reeds Spring won the most games they have so far in the tenure of Barry Yocom and played Bolivar for a share of the COC Small Championship.
College of the Ozarks was again the site for some very good basketball. Coach Becky Vest’s Lady Cats were again one of the top teams in the nation. With no conference affiliation, they entered the world of playing as an independent and did it with the same success we have seen time and time again from them. Coach Steve Shepherd’s Bobcats started the season on fire. Although they did cool of a bit still provided us with some incredible moments.
Baseball talk would have to start at Forsyth. The Panthers fell short in what might be the toughest district in the state, losing to state ranked number one Conway in the Championship game. A great run comes to an end for a special group of seniors.
Hollister and Branson also hosted Districts. The one at Hollister was as competitive as it can be. Every single game in the tournament was decided by ONE RUN. Not sure I have ever seen that in my years of covering sports in the tri-lakes. Reeds Spring lost to Mount Vernon in the first round and Hollister fell to Aurora in the semi-finals but as competitive as it was you dont have to imagine very much to know that either could have had a shot at the title had the ball bounced the right way.
A year full of excitement without a doubt….

Some incredible moments as well in sports that we generally do not have play-by-play coverage for… I will write about those as well as individual moments in the coming days……..
