Softball District Seeds released…..

The District Seedings have been released for the upcoming District Tournaments.

Branson will take part in the Class 4 District 11 Tournament that will take place at Parkview High School in Springfield.

The Lady Pirates have earned the number four seed and will take on the host school on Wednesday at 4:30.  They have not played the Lady Vikings this season.  Should they win they would play the top seeded Kickapoo Lady Chiefs in the semi-finals.  The split, two games against Kickapoo this year.

Despite a 15-6 record the Reeds Spring Lady Wolves received the Four Seed in the Four team Class 3 District 11 Tournament to be played at Logan-Rogersville.  They will face top seeded West Plains in a rematch of a great game played during the Springfield Tournament last weekend.  That game will be at 4:30 on Wednesday.  The winner will face the survivor of Rogersville and Hillcrest.

The District was left with four teams after Hollister elected to start playing Softball during the Spring season offered by MSHSAA.

My Weekly District Projections

Some things are starting to become more clear and others still remain in the fog.  In Class 3 there seems to be a clear dividing line between the top five and the bottom three.  Class 5 has been pretty well set for over a week, now, and this weeks games only solidified it.

Here is a look at the way I project things coming out taking into account what has happened so far and what is left on the schedule….

Class 3

You could project this a lot of different ways.  Reeds Spring lost to Mt Vernon and Cassville.  So, if they finish right ahead of either of them, the two would switch places in the seeding.  Right now I am projecting Seneca to serve as a buffer between them.  Cassville and Seneca play this week, that game could really shake things up.

  1. Reeds Spring- If the Wolves do make it here, its likely not to be until the final update after week Nine.  They must keep winning and be impressive in doing it.
  2. Seneca- The Indians got a real test this week but still got the win.  Lets see how they fair against Cassville.  And Lamar is still looming out there too.
  3. Cassville- The Wildcats could very well run the table.  That will make things interesting.  Remember if they finish right behind the Wolves they would jump them because of the head to head win
  4. Mount Vernon- The ‘Neers sit two in the standings now.. But they still have Aurora, Lamar, and Cassville waiting.  Win them all and they get the one… They could drop them all, but I see them going 1-2.
  5. Aurora- Houn Dawgs have a chance to help themselves as well over the next few weeks.  They play MTV this week… I see them playing again Week 10.
  6. Monett- The Cubs have dropped four straight but should win two of their last three.  They will be on the road round one…
  7. Hollister- The Tigers looked to be locked into this spot.  After winning the first two games of the season, things have gotten a lot tougher for them.  It doesnt get much easier this week Catholic is coming to town.
  8. East Newton – Go ahead and write this one down in pen.

Class 5

I said last week that I thought I have this one pegged for how it was going to turn out… All this week did was give me even more confidence that I have it right..

  1. Glendale- You have to be kidding me?  Throwing over 80 times… Over 800 yards?  That is total craziness
  2. Lebanon – Pretty well locked in here… they already lost to the Falcons.
  3. Branson – Pirates have a game in hand over Ozark.  But I am starting to think they wont have to use the jump, they may very well finish ahead of them anyway.
  4. Ozark- Hard to see the Tigers finishing anywhere else.
  5. Waynesville-  This team is a little hard to figure out.. As I have said previous weeks they always seem to start fast but have yet to finish on a Friday night.  They are not exactly the 0-fer team that you want to draw
  6. Central-  The poor Bulldogs are having a rough time of it.. But they did score this week

My Updated District Projections..

A few changes in my district projections.  Seneca answered some questions this week, no doubt they are a contender NOW…

Remember, just my best guess based on games that have been played and the schedule ahead.

Class 3

  1. Reeds Spring- Wolves need to run the table and that includes a Week 9 win.  Unless Aurora pulls a shocker Wolves will be either the 1 or the 3.
  2. Seneca- Big move for the Indians… they have a real chance to be 8-0 heading into Lamar.  They have to get by Aurora and Cassville first
  3. Cassville- Wildcats came roaring back last week.  That slip up to McDonald County is gonna hurt their seeding.
  4. Mount Vernon- Almost put Aurora here… the head to head matchup will determine 4-5.  They will play first round
  5. Aurora- The Monett win was big for them…  see Mt Vernon comments.
  6. Monett- defending champs lost a lot of talent from that offense
  7. Hollister- I have to drop the Tigers a spot after the loss to Buffalo
  8. East Newton- this is a fluid ranking.. but this spot can be written in ink

Class 5

This one is pretty much taking care of itself..

  1. Glendale- Offense if ramping back up and already have a win over Lebanon
  2. Lebanon- Bonus points will likely keep them ahead of Ozark
  3. Branson – The Pirates jump Ozark because of head to head
  4. Ozark- Tigers would automatically fall a spot if they finish right a head of Branson.  That seems likely because of Glandale and Lebanon bonus pts.
  5. Waynesville- The winless team nobody wants to draw
  6. Central- Bulldogs need help and dont see it on schedule.

Erickson, Lady Wolves Take Down Norwood…

The Reeds Spring Lady Wolves have been hitting on all cylinders this season.  They are hitting over .400 as a team and getting masterful pitching performances.  Going into last night they were 9-1, suffering only a one run loss at Bolivar.

Yesterday afternoon they traveled to Norwood to take on the Lady Pirates in a game I broadcast right here on perryphillipssports.com  While the Lady Pirates pitching kept the Reeds Spring bats relatively silent, they showed with Izzy Erickson in the circle they dont need much.

The sophomore pitcher was mowing them down.  Its hard to believe she could have been much better.  Fifteen of the Twenty-One outs came via strikeout.  She was only a lone walk, a single, and an error short of perfect.  But that has been pretty much par for the course for her this season. She lowered her ERA to 1.00 and went over the century mark in strikeouts recording her 103rd.

She has been incredible at the plate as well, hitting over .600 coming into the game and adding a 2-4 performance on the day.  She scored the first run of the game and drove in another.  Madison Cantrell had two hits as well moving her batting average up to .485.

The Lady Wolves are now 10-1 on the season and are going to be right back at it this afternoon.  The host Aurora with a first pitch scheduled for 5.

District Projections after week 4

Will go ahead and post projections ahead of actual standings. (MSHSAA has yet to update the standings to show this weeks losses for Monett and East Newton)

Some changes this week without a doubt.  These are my projections for what things will look like heading into the playoffs…The way I see things, with what has happened and what is scheduled ahead.  These will very sometimes greatly from the current standings…..

Class 3

  1. Reeds Spring- I told you that Seneca would have to be the Wolves friend and this week they were.  Wolves will have to run the table to make this happen and could finish anywhere from 1-4 at this point but for the time being I will move them to the top spot,
  2. Seneca- Indians got a huge win this week.  No doubt they are for real.  They could very well still get the top seed.  Lamar still awaits them, as does Cassville.  They are also at a bonus point (for playing up) disadvantage to Reeds Spring.
  3. Cassville- Was really surprised they fell to McDonald County.  They play an undefeated St James team this week.
  4. Mount Vernon – The MtNeers will not drop any further than this and could very well climb back up the list
  5. Monett- The Cubs losing to Lamar did nothing to drop them.  The only reason they fall a spot is because Seneca forced its way up.
  6. Hollister- Tigers stay here after losing their second in a row.  You knew Bolivar would eventually get well, Hollister just happened to be the victim.
  7. Aurora- The Dawgs start with such a tough schedule its kind of hard to size them up.  I do think they and Hollister do finish with the 6-7 seeds, its just which is which.
  8. East Newton- The way I see things right now, this one is about the only one I am totally confident about.

Class 5

  1. Glendale- The Falcons and Yellow Jackets get the advantage of playing two Class 6 teams.  Those bonus points could make it hard for Branson to pull ahead
  2. Lebanon- Bonus points help them as well and the fact they lost head to head to Glendale would move them here even if they finish ahead of Glendale.
  3. Branson- Pirates with a HUGE win at Ozark this week. That should really help them finish here.
  4. Ozark- Unless Ozark fan finish ahead of one of those top two they will drop to this spot… At this point that looks likely
  5. Waynesville- again they find ways to stay in games but are having trouble finishing..
  6. Central- Like the Class 3 District.. this is the easiest call.
