Wolves and Tigers named All-Big 8

The coaches have released the All Big 8 Conference teams and Reeds Spring and Hollister have a number of athletes garnering attention..  Colton Cramblett leads the way,  being named to the list at Four different positions and being named the Defensive Player of the Year.

District coming into shape.. Tri-Lakes rematch a real possibility

With one week to go in the regular season, the District Standings are coming into focus….. The current standings are a little misleading..

  1. Cassville
  2. Aurora
  3. Mt Vernon
  4. Hollister
  5. Reeds Spring
  6. Seneca

Now, if the playoffs started today… the seedings would shift to look like this:

  1. Cassville
  2. Mt Vernon
  3. Aurora
  4. Reeds Spring
  5. Hollister
  6. Seneca

The reasons for the changes: Mt Vernon beat Aurora, early in the season, head to head.  And, Reeds Spring beat Hollister.  Now, you might say that Hollister beat Mt Vernon.  Well, that is true. But you go from top to bottom so the ‘Neers win over Aurora takes precedence.

So if playoffs started now: Cassville and Mt Vernon would get byes,  Seneca would travel to Aurora and Hollister would play at Reeds Spring..

The way the points fall, there is a  chance nothing will change.  If Seneca wins big over Monett and Reeds Spring were to fall big to Rogersville there is a  chance that Seneca could catch the Wolves..  That would likely send Reeds Spring back to Aurora while Hollister would host Seneca.  Also, Hollister could possibly overtake Mt Vernon.  They would need a big win over Catholic and Mt Vernon would have to lose big to Marshfield.

In Short Hollister could finish anywhere from Third to Fifth.  Reeds Spring will finish anywhere from Fourth to Sixth.  Hollister could host Seneca or Reeds  Spring or travel to Reeds Spring.  Reeds Spring could host Hollister or could end up playing at Hollister, Aurora, or Mt Vernon.

In Class  5 it is pretty well set… Branson and Republic are going to play in back to back weeks.  The winner of this Friday Nights game will host Week 10

If you thought Class 3 was confusion Class 2 with Forsyth is really mixed up.

Forsyth currently sits FOURTH..  However, they have a triple bonus game next week because they are playing Class 5 Central.  So in reality you should look at them in the #2 spot right now.  Its safe to say they will host.. but it could be Strafford, Houston, or Willow Springs.. There is also a chance they could jump all the way to the top spot and get a 1st round bye if their neighbors from Hollister beat Catholic.

District Football Outlook

Normally by this time of the season, my district projections are in their third week or so… But 2020 is anything but normal. With the cancellations that have taken place already, I put it off just a little bit to let things come into focus….  well, not too much actually has…

In class 3 it currently looks like this.

  1. Cassville
  2. Mt Vernon
  3. Aurora
  4. Seneca
  5. Reeds Spring
  6. Hollister

It is a little misleading.  If it actually ended, just like this, Mt Vernon would move to the top spot because they beat Cassville, head to head.  Also, Reeds Spring is showing up, a fraction of a point behind Seneca.  If they play equal, the rest of the year, and neither have cancellations, Reeds Spring would move ahead of them because of more bonus points that will be picked up because of playing larger schools the rest of the way.  And, if that did happen and Seneca finished just a head of Hollister, the Tigers would jump to the fifth spot, because they played and beat the Indians.  In reality a lot will come down to Reeds Spring vs Aurora.  I admit that I am probably looking at this through Wolves tented glasses but this is the way I see things coming out  after all games have been played and moves for head to head wins have been taken into account.

  1. Mt Vernon (injury makes them different but they won early)
  2. Cassville (will finish in the top spot, point wise)
  3. Reeds Spring
  4. Aurora
  5. Hollister
  6. Seneca

A few things could drastically change this.. 1. If Aurora beats Reeds Spring in week 8. 2. If Aurora can get the points needed to pass Mt Vernon.  (if they do, the Mt Neers would jump back up because of head to head, but Aurora could not fall past 3 even if the Wolves beat them)

Class 5

This area district is very much coming into Focus.  Right now it looks like this:

  1. Webb City
  2. Carthage
  3. Ozark
  4. Republic
  5. Branson
  6. Neosho

Since Webb City vs Carthage was cancelled a few weeks ago, if they meet at all in wont be until the District Championship..  A lot of things can happen, but the Pirates are very much looking at playing Republic in back to back weeks.  A Pirate victory in Week 9 would allow them to host and I think that is what Coach Hays’ guys will do..

  1. Webb City
  2. Carthage
  3. Ozark
  4. Branson
  5. Republic
  6. Neosho

Class 2

Now the District that Forsyth is one that is almost impossible to predict..  The team sitting in the one spot is only .500 on the season and has missed 2 games.  Catholic currently sits 6th, despite the fact that they have not won, they have missed 3 games but guess what?  They are likely to move up, even if they dont win, and they play.  Their last three games are all bonus point games, including one that will be a double bonus.  Right now it is:

  1. Houston
  2. Fair Grove
  3. Liberty (Mt View)
  4. Forsyth
  5. Strafford
  6. Catholic
  7. Willow Springs

Strafford vs Forsyth is a really big game this Friday Night..  I will assume that Catholic is going to get to play these next three weeks and is going to get to take advantage of all those bonus points that are coming… Strafford could finish anywhere from 3rd to 6th…  This is the district that I feel the least confident about.. But here goes…

  1. Fair Grove
  2. Liberty
  3. Houston
  4. Forsyth
  5. Catholic
  6. Strafford
  7. Willow Springs

We will see how much changes next week……
