Rain…Rain…Rain

Rain and District baseball; It seems to be a mix that we get over and over. No doubt some years are worse than others. After a total washout, yesterday, we sit and wait on decisions on whether or not to play today.
Not much that can really be done. It is the time of year where rain is prevalent and a sport that cant be played with too much of the wet stuff. Some fields, undoubtedly can hold a lot more water than others, and that probably should be considered when awarding districts. But, most every school would like its chance to host. And, when its your turn, you don’t want to move the games unless its absolutely necessary.
Forsyth has a great facility. But, they would of had a hard time getting games in yesterday. Today on the other hand could be a different story. The games at Fair Grove have already been postponed for today. With the turf, the game could very well happen, if scheduled for Collier Field. At what point do you look to move the tournament instead of delaying another day? That is really a good question, and quite frankly one that there is not a really fair answer.
The district coaches/ADs voted to skip Forsyth in the two year rotation and award the District Tournament to Strafford, last year, and Fair Grove this season. I know its a shock, but yes, politics do come in to play in high school athletics occasionally. But now that all of that is done, what to do in a situation like this? You know you have a facility that is a whole lot more playable than others, but do you want to move the Tournament? If you are Forsyth, yes, without a doubt. If you are Fair Grove, probably not. You got the rights to the District Tournament and would like to host the whole thing, if possible. If you are Springfield Catholic (Forsyths semi-final opponent) probably would just assume not play Forsyth in Taney County unless its absolutely necessary. Not sure it really matters to anyone else still in the running. Long story, short, I understand the Forsyth point of view and agree with them, but I am bias in this situation. If I am Fair Grove or Catholic I would probably not move it either until there was really not another choice.
Branson and Hollister are both hosting and really had no chance to get in games yesterday. As of now, will try to play today. For now, we watch the skies and wait on a decision.
